Educational Programs

Throughout BC, elementary school principals have invited us to introduce the evolving face of “Team Feathers” to their students in the hope of inspiring an appreciation for these ever-wild hunters; it has been our privilege to answer questions about their natural habitats, behaviours, and life-spans, and to share — however briefly, a glimpse of the magic of their flight.

We practice what I term “The Steve and Terri Irwin” principle. If you can get close to (in this case) a powerful, living raptor, touch its talons…look into its eyes…then when you go home, that hawk, eagle or falcon will be in your mind. You’ll tell your parents about the experience and maybe, just maybe, you’ll look them up in a book or on the web, learn about the challenges they face in the wild, and take some small action which, added to the efforts of others, will make a significant — a lasting — difference.

As my own understanding of raptors expands, so too does my desire to thrill and inspire others with their fragile magnificence. Science World, Urban Rush, Camp Squeah, and The Exploration Place regularly ask us to partner with them in the ongoing task of exciting their visitors and viewers with the beauty of our feathered Companions. This keeps “The Falconlady” presentations in a continual state of evolution, and challenges us to find innovative answers to the question of “how do we involve students of all ages even further?”.

With this focus in mind, we look forward to hearing from your group, school or private organization to discuss what kind of programming you would like to see or experience.
